My answer used to be to gatekeep (and it largely still is); but what if something more radical needs to happen? What if, in order to get rid of this constant loss, we move toward universal loss; a loss so profound that we lose loss...as there's nothing to lose?

What has, or does, delving into darkness allow us to do that "the light" doesn't...or can't? #RepresentationMatters, or does it? In this video, I question the utility of representation. So often representation is treated as sacred such that it can't be criticized. I'm wondering if this has caused us not to ask very important questions of representation, or worse yet...as it gotten us to forego larger questions and imaginative endeavors?

In this video, I wanted to look at the reviews of the new game, Forspoken; more specifically, the commentary around and critiques of Frey, the protagonist. So much of the response to her, I would suggest, has been based in anti-Blackness, and I want to challenge us to get beyond "liking" (or not) these characters and being more introspective about what causes us to be uncomfortable or comfortable with characters...what structures how we think about characters, stories, worlds, and people.

The genre of movie that we've deemed "slave movies" or movies about Black resistance struggles are often thought to be degrading for Black people. Often, we use the term "trauma porn" to describe them. In this video, I seek to explore not only the causes and "need" for anti-Black violence, but whether or not we have a duty to depict these experiences of violence. What is the difference between desiring and consuming Black suffering...and bearing witness to it.

Here, I talk about what I think regarding using academic language, and I pose a question that been on my mind about the power of story.

Is the ballroom scene the revolutionary or even radical scene that many have posited to be? Or is it reformist and, ultimately, seeking incorporation and palatability? In this video, we discuss the radical possibilities of ballroom, its failings to be radical, and how we might be able to understand its evolution and push its radical, its Black capacity for gender and class subversion.
